Aiyedatiwa in Full Control — Ondo APC Elders Shut Door on Parallel Structures

The Ondo State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) has thrown its weight firmly behind Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, declaring him the undisputed leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

At its maiden meeting on Saturday, August 9, 2025, held behind closed doors at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Akure, the council, chaired by party elder and former NNPC Board Chairman Chief Pius Akinyelure, said the session was focused on strengthening the bond between government and the party, ensuring unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

GAC Secretary and APC National Vice Chairman (South West), Hon. Isaac Kekemeke, set the tone, stating:

“We restated the obvious fact that the Governor is the leader of the party in the state. We were satisfied with his performance and advised him on wider consultations with stakeholders. Our party is one, with no factions.”

Kekemeke further stressed that while presidential support groups could continue to exist, they “cannot serve as alternatives to the party or be used to divide it,” adding that such groups must remain loyal to the APC’s structure and the presidential ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Chief Akinyelure hailed the deliberations as “fruitful” and “encouraging,” saying the GAC was established to bridge the gap between government and the party.

“Whatever is going on in government is exposed to the party, so that there can be a smooth relationship. Our mission is to make sure the party grows and the government is successful,” he said.

Former APC National Vice Chairman (Southwest), Pastor Bankole Oluwajana, praised Aiyedatiwa’s inclusive leadership style:

“The Governor has accommodated everyone regardless of past political positions. There’s no room for disunity. He’s the leader of the party, and we acknowledge that leadership.”

Former Senator Prof. Ajayi Boroffice highlighted Aiyedatiwa’s governance record:

“He has paid all salaries, owes nothing, has not borrowed, and has even paid off part of inherited debts. The Advisory Council is to advise, not dictate, and we commend his achievements so far.”

Chief Jamiu Ekungba and Hon. Awodeyi Akinsehinwa Apata both commended the Governor for convening the council, stressing that it would boost the APC’s strength in Ondo State ahead of the next elections.

Other prominent leaders at the meeting included former Deputy Governor Alhaji Ali Olanusi, General Funso Oyenehin (rtd), Ambassador Sola Iji, Chief Bode Sunmonu, Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin, Dr. Ayodeji Oyedele, and Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti.

The GAC’s united stance marks a clear declaration that Aiyedatiwa holds the reins of the APC in Ondo, with party elders rallying around him to ensure stability, growth, and victory in future polls.
