Tension has gripped the Ehin Apata area of Akure, the Ondo State Capital following an alleged case of intimidation and arson linked to a failed relationship and religious disagreement.

A resident of the area, Mr Gabriel Ajayi, who lives at Plot 4A, Falowo Layout, Ehin Apata, alleged that his daughter, Omoyemi Rachael Ajayi, was previously in a relationship with one Mohammed Olajide, which later turned sour.

According to Ajayi, the relationship ended after Mohammed Olajide allegedly made repeated attempts to compel his daughter to convert to Islam and subjected her to what he described as persistent abuse.

He claimed that despite the breakup, Olajide continued to visit their residence, allegedly demanding that Omoyemi be handed over to him.

The situation, Ajayi said, escalated on Sunday, August 10, 2025, when Mohammed Olajide, accompanied by individuals described as his associates, allegedly stormed the Ajayi family home.

He accused the group of vandalising the property and setting a significant part of the building on fire, leading to extensive damage.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation of injuries resulting from the incident.

Residents of Ehin Apata have expressed fear and concern over the development, calling on security agencies to swiftly investigate the matter and ensure the safety of lives and property in the area.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Olushola Ayanlade were unsuccessful as his mobile number was unreachable while no official statement had been issued as of press time.
