Suicide or Murder? Ondo AG Pushes Probe into UNIMED Registrar’s Death

by Roving

The Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, has triggered the state’s Coroner’s Law to investigate the mysterious death of Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.

In a formal request to the Chief Judge of the State, Honourable Justice Olusegun Ayedun Odusola, Dr. Ajulo noted that the Registrar died under questionable circumstances on or about July 17, 2025.

He argued that “in the public interest, a formal inquiry in the form of a coroner’s inquest is warranted” to determine the cause and manner of death, and whether anyone may be criminally liable.

Acting on the request, Justice Odusola has appointed Dr. Dickson Ogunfuyi, Chief Magistrate and Head of the Ondo State Multi-Door Court, as coroner to lead the inquest.

The move comes amid conflicting accounts surrounding Adeniran’s death. Official narratives suggest he ingested poison after a government white paper indicted him and recommended his dismissal.

However, the family maintains he was attacked and forced to drink the poison by unknown assailants.

Dr. Ajulo assured that the inquest would be carried out with full transparency and strict adherence to due process, in line with the provisions of the Ondo State Coroners Law.
