Residents, market women, and shop owners in Akure and neighbouring communities on Thursday fully complied with the directive of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo  Aladelusi, to close all markets, stalls, and shops in observance of the annual Aheregbe Festival.

A visit by Roving Reporters to major trading hubs such as Oja Oba and Arakale revealed total compliance, as entrances were locked and stalls stood empty in line with the monarch’s order.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Deji, Michael Adeyeye, had earlier issued a statement warning that no market should open under any guise during the festival.

He, however, noted that pharmacy shops and patent medicine stores were exempted from the directive.

Although commercial activities were suspended, human and vehicular movement continued unhindered across the city, with the monarch clarifying there would be no restriction on movement during the celebration.
