••• Mulls Obi’s Return to Tackle Tinubu’s Political Machinery

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has cautioned opposition politicians against underestimating President Bola Tinubu, describing such an attitude as “political foolishness.”

Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, as monitored by Roving Reporters, Ulasi said Tinubu is a “very strategically thinking person” and must be confronted with a well-thought-out political plan.

“I am one person who doesn’t take Tinubu for granted. Anybody who does is a political fool. We need a God-fearing, hardworking politician to start thinking of how to face him,” he stated.

Ulasi stressed that in such a political equation, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, “becomes relevant” because many Nigerians perceive him as honest and hardworking, with no major corruption allegations.

He revealed that the PDP is exploring the possibility of bringing Obi back into its fold, describing his return as “a big advantage” that could tilt public sentiment in the party’s favour.

On former vice president Atiku Abubakar, Ulasi was blunt, saying Atiku has resigned from the PDP and is now “irrelevant” to its political plans.

When asked about the possibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan emerging as PDP’s presidential candidate, Ulasi dismissed the idea, noting that Jonathan had already served six years as president and “is not needed” in the current political arrangement. He, however, hinted at reports that Jonathan once suggested the PDP should reunite Obi and Atiku before he would consider working with them again.

Ulasi further argued that if the PDP zones its presidential ticket to the Southeast and a candidate from the region emerges president, it would mark “the official end of the Civil War” and give the Igbo people a genuine sense of belonging.
