Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has taken a swipe at some political appointees in his administration, accusing them of hypocrisy and disloyalty in the face of opposition criticism.
The governor, while addressing members of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Alumni Solidarity Group, who presented a gubernatorial nomination form to him, accused certain aides of “eating from both sides” and refusing to defend his administration publicly.
Mr. Oyebanji expressed disappointment that despite drawing salaries from the government, some appointees have maintained silence on online platforms where his administration is constantly attacked by critics.
“We need to seize the social media space. It’s not that the opposition is winning, but some political appointees, because they are eating from both sides, can’t even come out to defend the government,” he said.
The governor vowed to hold such individuals accountable at the right time.
“I’m marking them one by one, but I won’t say anything now. Those of you on platforms where our government is being dragged and you choose to keep quiet while collecting salaries from this administration — we will come back to you at the appropriate time,” Oyebanji warned.
The governor’s outburst followed an alarm earlier raised by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, who alleged that over 150 individuals, including influencers, had been paid to launch coordinated online attacks against the Oyebanji administration.
Mr. Oyebode further alleged that some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were behind the sponsored smear campaign.
