The residents of Temidire Zone 4 in Egbejila community, Ilorin, were thrown into shock on Thursday following the brutal murder of a 39-year-old pregnant woman, Mrs. Esther Enemo, allegedly at the hands of her brother-in-law.

The horrifying incident, suspected to be ritual-related, occurred while the victim was alone at home. Neighbours told reporters that they had grown suspicious after seeing a masked man leave the compound on Wednesday night.

One of the neighbours, who requested anonymity, recounted that her husband challenged the stranger. “The man removed his mask and identified himself as the younger brother of Esther’s husband. He then locked the door from outside and left. That was when my husband sensed something was wrong. When we noticed traces of blood, we raised an alarm,” she said.

Mrs. Enemo’s husband, Mr. Ekene Enemo, a trader in agricultural chemicals in Kwara North, was away when the tragedy occurred.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said detectives recovered the victim’s dismembered body behind her residence, while other parts were discovered hidden in a sack under a community bridge.

She revealed that the key suspect, identified as Mr. Sylvester Enemo (29), the younger brother of the victim’s husband, was arrested after being sighted leaving the house moments before the grim discovery.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter, assuring the public that justice will be served,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.

She further appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid unverified speculations, adding that security strategies across the state had been reinforced.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the shocking case has left the Egbejila community shaken, raising concerns about ritual-related killings and safety within family circles.
