It was a day that changed his life forever. Four years after a tragic incident claimed the lives of his father and two younger siblings, Chinedu Victor Ogba has penned an emotional tribute in their memory.
On Monday, August 25, 2025, Chinedu took to Facebook to honor the late Sunday Okechukwu Ogba, his father, and his siblings Chigozirim (17) and Eberechi (14), who died alongside four extended family members after eating Suya in Umueze Umuakanu community, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, on August 25, 2021.
“Today marks four years since I lost my beloved dad and my dear siblings in an unexpected tragedy that changed my life forever. Not a day passes without thoughts of you all,” he wrote.
“I choose today to honor your lives, the love you gave, the laughter we shared, and the bond we will always carry. Though you are gone from this world, you are never gone from me. Rest on, Dad. Rest on, my dear siblings. Your memories remain my treasure, and I will continue to live in a way that makes you proud.”
The tragedy, which shook the Umuahia community, also claimed the lives of four children aged 3, 9, 10, and 12, belonging to the Ikwunze family, who were visiting that evening. The group had shared a Suya meal bought by Sunday Ogba, but shortly after, they began vomiting and died within hours.
Mrs. Jessy Chinonyerem Ogba and her daughter, Ijeoma Blessing, survived the incident after being hospitalized.
Four years later, the memories remain fresh, and for Chinedu, the pain lingers — but so does the love and the determination to keep their legacy alive.
