Akure – Business and commercial activities in Akure, the Ondo State capital, will come to a halt on Friday, August 29, 2025, as all markets, shops, and stalls are to be closed in observance of the annual Amole Festival.
According to a directive from the palace of the Deji of Akure Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi , the monarch ordered the total closure of markets as part of age-long traditions tied to the festival.
The palace, in a statement signed by Mr. Adeyeye Michael, Chief Press Secretary to the Deji, clarified that:
The closure affects all trading activities, markets, stalls, and shops across Akure.
Only pharmacies and patent medicine stores are exempted from the restriction.
Human and vehicular movement will not be affected.
Residents, market women, and traders have been urged to comply fully with the directive in the interest of cultural preservation.
The palace concluded with the traditional blessing: “Akure a gbe a oo.”
