The Ondo State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has commended the steady growth of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state, describing it as a formidable opposition force.
The commendation came during a courtesy visit by IPAC leaders to the SDP State Secretariat in Akure on Thursday, August 28, 2025, where they met with the party’s chairman, Barrister Gbenga Akinbuli.
Leading the delegation, IPAC Chairman in Ondo State and Chairman of the Action People’s Party (APP), Hon. Adesanya Olaoluwa, said the council recognizes the SDP’s rising profile and the leadership qualities of Akinbuli.
He emphasized that IPAC’s role is not to oppose government blindly but to offer constructive criticism while acknowledging positive governance strides.
Olaoluwa noted that Akinbuli’s induction into the council was “a step in the right direction,” praising his commitment and contributions to deepening democracy in the state.
IPAC Secretary, Comrade Alex Adeniyi, also applauded the recognition given to Akinbuli, describing it as timely and reflective of his dedication to the council’s growth.
In his response, Akinbuli thanked IPAC for the solidarity visit, pledging to continue supporting the council’s programmes and working collectively to strengthen democratic governance across Ondo State.
Other party leaders at the meeting, including Hon. Jenyo Ataunoko (NRM Chairman) and Elder Funso Felix Owaro (IPAC Treasurer and ARM Chairman), commended Akinbuli’s leadership style and reaffirmed their support for IPAC’s mission.
The meeting was also attended by SDP executives such as Hon. Femi Ikoyi (State Secretary), Hon. Oyeniyi Iwakun (Publicity Secretary), Hon. Opawole Olayinka (Akure North Chairman), Bobade Omotade (Akure South Chairman), Mr. Akinnagbe Ranti (Ondo Central Chairman), and Eko Abegin Adeshina (State Exco on Civil Society).
The courtesy visit, observers say, underscores IPAC’s commitment to fostering unity among opposition parties in Ondo State while recognizing the SDP’s growing influence under Akinbuli’s leadership.
