Residents of Ikare-Akoko and neighbouring communities in Ondo North Senatorial District have lauded the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) and the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for bringing free medical services to their doorsteps.
Hundreds of people benefited from the programme on Thursday, accessing free consultations, medicines, and basic treatment.
The outreach, designed to cover at least 1,000 beneficiaries in each senatorial district, had earlier taken place in Akure for the Central Senatorial District and Okitipupa for the South.
Speaking at the event, GMT Director General, Hon. Saka Yusu-Ogunleye, said the initiative was aimed at taking quality healthcare to rural dwellers and encouraging people to pay attention to their health.
“We are targeting 1,000 residents per senatorial district before moving into constituencies. Health is wealth, and this is our contribution to national development,” he stated.
GMT Woman Leader, Mrs. Olamide Falana, described the project as a reflection of the group’s commitment to the well-being of ordinary Nigerians, in line with federal efforts to bring governance closer to the grassroots.
Represented by Hon. Bode Obanla, a former aide to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, commended GMT for what he called a remarkable initiative.
“What GMT is doing here is remarkable. Bringing medical care to villages shows that governance can truly touch lives,” Tunji-Ojo said.
For beneficiaries, the programme was nothing short of a relief. Mr. Sodiq Issau-Sanni, a civil servant, described it as a “timely and life-saving intervention,” noting that many residents who rarely visited hospitals got medical attention.
The outreach team assured that the exercise would be sustained across Ondo’s senatorial districts, including hard-to-reach communities, to guarantee wider access to healthcare.
