Ondo Police Crack Down on Eight Officers over Corruption, Misconduct

by Roving

At least eight police officers in Ondo State have been sanctioned in the last two months over allegations of corruption, extortion, and other professional misconduct, the State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has disclosed.

Lawal, who spoke in Akure on Friday, said the disciplinary measures were triggered by complaints lodged by members of the public against erring officers.

He explained that the command under his leadership was determined to enforce professional ethics and restore public confidence in policing.

“We have the monitoring units, the provost, and the Complaint Response Unit (CRU). Once we receive a complaint, the officer faces consequences.

Some have been detained, some queried, while others are undergoing room trial depending on rank,” he said.

The commissioner stressed that corruption, extortion, and illegal roadblocks remain daily topics of caution within the force. “If you are caught, you will face the music,” he warned.

Lawal praised the public for their cooperation and urged them to continue reporting misconduct through divisional police officers, area commanders, or by reaching him directly. “Just call my number and I will pick,” he assured.

He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for ensuring prompt payment of salaries and promoting deserving personnel, noting that excellence and transparency were now central to police operations.

Lawal added that the command had already drawn up an operational plan for the ember months to guarantee a crime-free last quarter of the year in Ondo State.

Since assuming duty on June 30, 2025, the CP said he had prioritized stakeholder meetings, field monitoring, and retraining of officers in investigation and prosecution.

“I am not an armchair commander. We must lead by example and work with other agencies without rivalry,” he emphasized.
