There is growing anxiety in Akure, Ondo State, following the sudden disappearance of a man whose personal belongings were discovered inside a hotel room days after he was declared missing.

The man, identified as Olaloye Olatunde, reportedly travelled from Owo on Sunday, 24th August 2025, to attend a week-long Child Labour programme organised by Trace Project Akure in partnership with Charakids Foundation.

The training, which attracted about 56 participants, was hosted at a popular hotel in Alagbaka (name withheld).

According to family sources, Olatunde maintained regular contact with his wife and relatives between Monday and Wednesday of the programme.

However, by Friday, 29th August, his phone was found to be switched off, and all attempts to reach him failed.

Concerned about his silence, his family visited the hotel, only to discover that while other participants had checked out, Olatunde’s clothes, shoes and other personal effects remained untouched in his room.

Shocked, the relatives took photographs of the abandoned items as evidence.

The development has left his family distressed and the community on edge, as his whereabouts remain unknown.

As at the time of filing this report, neither the hotel management nor the organisers of the seminar had released an official statement.

Reacting to the situation, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, PPRO, Olushola Ayanlade), confirmed that an investigation had been launched.

“The command has commenced an investigation into the mystery surrounding his disappearance. We call on members of the public to provide any relevant information that can assist us in unravelling the case,” she said.
