The Ondo State Government has announced the revival of the famous Mare Festival in Idanre, a flagship cultural and tourism event that had been suspended for years. The festival is scheduled to return in December 2025.
Making the announcement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Afolabi Adesoji, said the decision aligns with Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s agenda to reposition tourism as a driver of economic growth, cultural renaissance, and youth empowerment in the state.
Adesoji explained that the festival’s revival goes beyond cultural preservation, noting that it would expand opportunities for enterprise and investment, while showcasing the rich traditions of Idanre and the globally acclaimed Idanre Hills.
“The return of the Mare Festival will not only promote our heritage but also boost hospitality, entertainment, and related industries. It is part of government’s resolve to make culture and tourism engines of development,” he said.
He assured residents, cultural enthusiasts, and stakeholders that preparations are underway to deliver a colourful, inclusive, and memorable festival this December.
