Tragedy as Woman Killed Over ₦800 Debt in Ondo

Akure, Ondo State — A shocking tragedy has left residents of Akure in disbelief after a 35-year-old woman, Tewogboye Omowumi, died following a violent altercation linked to a debt of just ₦800.

According to the Ondo State Police Command, the incident occurred after Iluyemi Bosede, the suspect, confronted Omowumi’s elder sister over money owed for tomatoes and pepper purchased from her. The argument quickly escalated.

In the heat of the dispute, Bosede allegedly grabbed Omowumi’s clothes, causing her to lose balance and fall.

She sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers swiftly moved to the scene and arrested Bosede, who is now in custody.

The case has been opened for investigation, and authorities have assured the public that justice will be served.

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, condemned the incident and urged residents to seek peaceful ways of resolving disputes.

He reiterated the command’s resolve to safeguard lives and property under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

“This unfortunate case is a reminder that violence is never a solution,” CP Lawal said, stressing that the police will ensure due process is followed.

The incident has sparked outrage across the state, with many lamenting how a minor debt could lead to the loss of a precious life.
