Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has disclosed that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 2024 Ondo Governorship Election, Agboola Ajayi, has indicated his readiness to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Governor made this known shortly after the Supreme Court, on Wednesday, dismissed all pending appeals against his election victory, describing the development as the final seal on the mandate freely given to him by the people of Ondo State.
According to Aiyedatiwa, Ajayi, who had earlier written to formally withdraw his appeal at the apex court, has also pledged to support the administration and contribute to the state’s progress.
“In fact, Hon. Agboola Ajayi has told me personally that he is coming to join the APC. I am waiting for him so that we can work together to build a greater Ondo State,” the Governor told journalists.
The Supreme Court’s unanimous decision to strike out and dismiss all election petitions filed by opposition parties, including the PDP, SDP, and APM, effectively ended a prolonged season of litigation over the 2024 governorship election.
Political observers say Ajayi’s defection, if actualized, could significantly reshape the political landscape of Ondo State ahead of future contests.
