Man Jailed for Stealing Solar Light, Iron Rods in Ondo

An Akure Magistrate Court has sentenced one Andrew Tope to one year imprisonment for stealing a solar light fitted with a panel and some iron rods.

The case, State vs. Andrew Tope, came up on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, before Magistrate D. S. Sekoni.

According to court proceedings, the defendant, who had no legal representation, was arraigned on a one-count charge of stealing contrary to Section 383(1) and (2) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006, and punishable under Section 390 of the same law.

The charge was read to the defendant in open court, which he understood clearly before pleading guilty.

Prosecutor M. I. Osimen reviewed the facts of the case and presented exhibits recovered from the defendant to support the charge.

After considering the facts, Magistrate Sekoni convicted the defendant and sentenced him to one year imprisonment, with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.

The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) confirmed the development in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor.
