Tragedy as Drug Seller Kills Friend Over N20k Debt, Dumps Body in Drum in Ondo

A 40-year-old drug dealer, Eze Elechi Amadi, has been dragged before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing his 21-year-old friend, Otu Ifeanyi, in a shocking quarrel over just N20,000.

The incident, which has left residents of Kajola stunned, began when Amadi accused Ifeanyi—his friend and housemate—of withdrawing money from his account without repayment. What started as a heated argument quickly escalated into violence.

According to police investigators, Amadi allegedly whipped Ifeanyi with a horsewhip and delivered several punches. The victim slumped and reportedly died on the spot.

In a desperate attempt to conceal the crime, Amadi stuffed the corpse into a sack, placed it inside a blue plastic drum, and strapped it to his motorcycle.

His plan to dump the body in a bush failed when the load slipped off along the road. Unable to repack it, he abandoned both the corpse and his motorcycle and fled.

The grim discovery was made by an eyewitness returning from a night vigil, who immediately alerted the police.

Investigations later traced the victim to Amadi, who was said to have hidden inside the ceiling of his house before eventually surrendering himself at the police station.

Police prosecutor Austine Omhenimhen told the court that the offence occurred on August 24, 2025, around 1:50 p.m., and contravened Sections 324 and 316, punishable under Section 319 of the Ondo State Criminal Code.

The court did not take Amadi’s plea. Instead, Magistrate Odenusi Fadeyi ordered his remand at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The case was adjourned until October 13 for further hearing.
