Ondo Stands Still for Aiyedatiwa After Supreme Court Win

Akure, the Ondo State capital, was thrown into celebration on Friday as Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa received a heroic welcome from jubilant supporters following his victory at the Supreme Court.

Addressing a massive crowd at Democracy Park, Aiyedatiwa described the judiciary as the bedrock of society, emphasizing that fairness, equity, and justice remain crucial to sustaining democracy.

The Governor, who dedicated his victory to God and the people of Ondo State, commended the judiciary for delivering justice without fear or favour.

He also applauded his legal team for their professionalism and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing exemplary leadership.

“This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every citizen of this state,” Aiyedatiwa declared, thanking the electorate for their steadfast support during the election and subsequent legal battle.

In his goodwill message, the Director of Corporate Affairs at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, hailed the judgment as a victory for the people, noting that their votes had not been wasted.

Former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abdulazeez Oluboyo, also lauded the Governor’s historic sweep across all local governments, assuring citizens of quality governance and delivery of democracy dividends under the current administration.

On her part, former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Omowumi Ohwovoriole, described the Supreme Court ruling as “the end of discussion” on the 2024 governorship election, expressing optimism that peace, progress, and stability would define Aiyedatiwa’s tenure.

Among dignitaries at the reception were Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami; First Lady, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.
