Thousands of residents of Owo and Ose Local Government Areas of Ondo State have benefitted from the Jigi Asiwaju Free Medical Outreach, a programme that offered free medical check-ups, eye tests, glasses and medications.
The outreach, held on Thursday at Mapo Hall, Owo, was sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and facilitated by the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT).
Speaking at the event, GMT Director General, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, said the initiative was designed to take healthcare services directly to the grassroots.
“Mr. President cannot be everywhere, but it is our duty to spread the message of his achievements in infrastructure, health, transport, sports and more. This outreach, sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has given thousands of people access to free medical care,” he said.
GMT Secretary, Hon. Rasheed Badmus, and Director of Women’s Affairs, Olamide Falana, also commended President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. Falana noted that the outreach was aimed at addressing pressing healthcare needs in Owo and Ose communities.
“We are reaching about 1,000 people here, and will extend this across Ondo State. President Tinubu hit the ground running from his first day in office, and he must return in 2027 to complete his vision,” she added.
Former Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kola Olawoye (SAN), described the programme as one that aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that it cuts across party lines and brings relief to the people.
The leadership of GMT also paid a courtesy visit to the Olowo of Owo Kingdom, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, who is also Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The monarch applauded the initiative and lauded President Tinubu’s reforms in security, the economy and fuel supply.
“We are all benefiting from the present government, and when the time comes, we will reward him accordingly. The economy is stabilising, security is improving, and fuel queues have disappeared. Nigerians can see the changes,” Oba Ogunoye stated.
Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude for the gesture. A 68-year-old resident, Raphael Adeboye, said the programme came as a lifeline to many who had given up on treating their eye problems due to lack of funds.
Other GMT leaders present at the event included the State Director of Youth, Comrade Paff Kolade Lawal; GMT Iyaloja, Mrs. Adesida; Owo LG Coordinator, Hon. Adegoroye; Alhaji Isiaka Elegberun Ibon; and the Director of Medical.
The lawmaker representing Owo Constituency 2 in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. (Mrs.) RennyK Whitherspon, sent her apology for being absent at the event.
