5 Reasons Taye Currency Disgraced Ibadan at Olubadan’s Coronation

by Roving

The coronation of Senator Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland was meant to be royal, historic, and dignified. Instead, Fuji star Taye Currency turned it into a trending disaster. Here’s why people are still dragging him:

1. The Wrong Lyrics at the Wrong Time
Instead of praise-singing, Currency dropped “Were la fi n wo Were”. A line that may excite on the street, but at a sacred royal coronation? Big blunder.

2. A Golden Stage Wasted
This was the biggest platform of his career—front of kings, governors, and global media. Instead of elevating the moment, he dragged it down with careless improvisation.

3. The Osupa Factor
Many argue Saheed Osupa—the Fuji intellectual—should have been the one on stage. He understands history, culture, and how to honour royalty. Currency simply didn’t measure up.

4. Politics Over Culture
Rumour has it Currency was picked because of his closeness to Governor Seyi Makinde. To make matters more glaring, his son currently serves as the State Representative for Ibadan South-West I constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly. No crime in being close to power—but when politics chooses the band, culture suffers.

5. No Apology (Yet!)
Instead of humbly apologising, silence reigns. Until Currency admits his mistake, the backlash will keep growing. Meanwhile, organisers too must take the blame for allowing politics to cloud their reasoning.

💥 Bottom line: The Olubadan deserved better. Ibadan deserved better. Next time, let’s leave politics aside and put culture first.
