Controversy Trails Quiet Burial of UNIMED Registrar Under Inquest

by Roving

Akure, Sept. 27, 2025 — The late Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, was laid to rest quietly on Saturday at his Akure residence, even as the Coroner’s Court continues to probe the circumstances surrounding his sudden death.

The burial, described as impromptu and solemn, drew a large turnout from the university community.

Roving Reporters gathered that The current Vice-Chancellor of UNIMED, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe led a delegation of top management staff, while the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, was also in attendance.

The street leading to the Registrar’s home was packed with vehicles as mourners gathered to pay their last respects.

Notably absent at the funeral was Prof. Adolphus Loto, former Acting Vice-Chancellor, whose testimony at the inquest earlier this week had alleged that the deceased paraded forged certificates — a revelation that has become central to the ongoing fact-finding hearings.

The burial came just days after an autopsy was performed on Wednesday at the instance of the Coroner’s Court, which is seeking to determine whether the Registrar’s death was natural, self-induced, or the result of foul play.

The autopsy report, expected within weeks, is anticipated to shape the next phase of the inquest.

While the family quietly interred the remains at home, the court has emphasized that the investigation will continue until the truth about the Registrar’s death is fully uncovered.
