An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ondo State, Chief Alex Ajipe, has raised concerns over what he described as premature and unnecessary campaigns for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election in the state.
Speaking on Fresh FM Akure on Monday, Chief Ajipe said several support groups parading across the state were creating needless noise, rather than focusing on governance and the welfare of ordinary citizens.
According to him, the governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, only assumed full leadership of the state in February and should be allowed to consolidate without distractions.
“Even the President himself has asked people to calm down. Why the noise now? Election is still far off. The real issue should be governance, not endless rallies and sound systems disturbing the public,” Ajipe said.
The party leader alleged that some individuals within the APC, not opposition elements, were behind the campaigns in a bid to “settle political grudges” and weaken the governor’s focus.
He added that while mobilization within the party was normal, street parades and open campaigns for an election two years away were “insensitive to the economic pains of the people.”
“People are still struggling with reforms. What Ondo State needs now is information, orientation and support for industries and farmers, not noise about 2027,” he insisted.
Chief Ajipe further dismissed insinuations of a deep rift between the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO), and Governor Aiyedatiwa, noting that both leaders maintain cordial relations.
He, however, cautioned support groups against exploiting political backing to “distract or disrespect constituted authority in the state.”
