The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has dismissed speculations of crisis following the resignation of its former Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Leye Igbabo, describing his exit as both “inconsequential and long overdue.”
In his resignation letter addressed to the State Chairman on Tuesday, Igbabo accused the party’s secretariat of “utter deceit, gross indiscipline, and lack of sincerity of purpose,” adding that he could no longer work in what he termed a “hostile and unproductive environment.”
But in a swift response, the PDP state leadership hit back, insisting there was no crisis within the party and accusing Igbabo of attempting to mislead the public.
According to the party, Igbabo had been effectively sidelined months earlier over “questions of loyalty and motives” and was only “offered the dignity of a voluntary resignation” which he chose to turn into a smear campaign.
State Secretary of the party, Barr. Oluseye Olujimi, said Igbabo’s time in office was “marked by disloyalty, poor coordination, and a fixation on self-promotion rather than service to the party,” stressing that his departure opens room for “fresh capacity and improved effectiveness.”
“The exit of one employee cannot be equated with a crisis. Igbabo was simply not fit for the demands of leadership, and his departure is a relief rather than a loss,” Olujimi stated.
Party insiders confirmed that Igbabo had been stopped from issuing official statements as far back as three months ago, leaving his eventual resignation as little more than a formality.
With the internal reorganisation ongoing, the Ondo PDP maintains it remains “strong, united, and focused” ahead of the political tasks before it.
