We’ll Ensure Somtochukwu Maduagwu Did Not Die in Vain – Youth Minister

by Roving

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has vowed that the tragic death of Ms. Somtochukwu Maduagwu will not be in vain, stressing that her story must inspire urgent reforms in security and public safety across Nigeria.

Somtochukwu, a 29-year-old model, lawyer, and rising journalist with Arise Television, was killed during a robbery attack at her Abuja home — a shocking incident that has plunged the nation into mourning.

In a statement, Olawande described her as “a shining star who embodied the brilliance, resilience, and promise of Nigeria’s youth.” He said her death must serve as a call to action.

“What makes this loss even more painful are accounts suggesting her life could have been saved if help had come in time. This is unacceptable. As a government, we are compelled to act with urgency to confront insecurity, strengthen public safety, and ensure accountability in our institutions,” the minister said.

While extending condolences to her family, colleagues, and the media community, Olawande pledged that the Federal Ministry of Youth Development will join efforts with relevant authorities and stakeholders to make sure Somtochukwu’s death sparks lasting change.

“Her light, though extinguished too soon, must inspire us to guarantee that our youths live, thrive, and fulfill their destinies in safety and dignity,” he added.

Somtochukwu’s passing has intensified calls for improved emergency response systems and stronger measures against insecurity, with many Nigerians insisting her tragic end must mark a turning point in the fight for safer communities.
