Africa Missions Global (AMG) has entered into a strategic partnership with the British Council to expand teacher training programmes across Africa.

The agreement was sealed on Thursday at the British Council’s Lagos office, where both organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Under the deal, AMG will deploy the British Council’s free online training resources to support its ongoing teacher development initiatives, while also receiving tailored offline training support.

The collaboration is expected to strengthen classroom learning in Nigeria and gradually scale to other African countries.

By improving teacher capacity, both organisations aim to enhance the quality of education and boost student outcomes in underserved communities.

Founded over 28 years ago, AMG has delivered education and skills development programmes in more than 20 African nations, with a focus on teacher training, youth empowerment, and advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on quality education and global partnerships.

The British Council, the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, has been operating in Nigeria since 1943 and works in over 100 countries worldwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, Pastor Brown Oyitso, Chairman of AMG’s Board of Trustees, described the partnership as a “major step” in advancing education outcomes.

“By combining AMG’s community reach with the British Council’s expertise, we are better positioned to support teachers and strengthen classroom learning,” he said.

In her remarks, Donna McGowan, Country Director of the British Council in Nigeria, noted that the collaboration reflects the Council’s commitment to empowering teachers.

“Our goal is to provide skills and resources that help deliver inclusive, sustainable, and impactful learning outcomes for young people,” she stated.

The MoU also ushers in the AMG-British Council Digital Teacher Academy, a new platform offering three levels of certification — Foundational, Intermediate, and Advanced — in modern pedagogy, assessment, and school leadership.

Courses will be accessible through AMG’s digital learning platform, optimised for low-bandwidth devices, with the pilot set to begin in the last quarter of 2025.
