Motorists urged to use alternative routes during 5-day shutdown
The Ondo State Government has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Akure–Ilesa Highway at the Onyearugbulem/Shagari junction to allow for critical works on the ongoing flyover project.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the affected stretch will be shut for five days — from Sunday, October 5 to Friday, October 10, 2025 — to enable the casting and placement of pre-stressed beams.
Hon. Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Olawoye Ayorinde Abiola, assured motorists that adequate diversion routes have been arranged to ease movement during the exercise.
“We appeal for patience and cooperation from the public as we work to improve traffic flow and modernize road infrastructure in Akure. This temporary inconvenience will pave the way for long-term relief,” he stated.
The government emphasized that the project is part of its “Our EASE is Working” agenda to deliver lasting infrastructure improvements across Ondo State.
