Royal dignity was thrown into the mud on Friday as Idogun community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State exploded in violence, leaving the Onidogun of Idogun, Oba Moses Bakare, his wife, and son humiliated in a clash linked to a bitter leadership feud and a court order.
The chaos reportedly broke out at Ishara Quarters when Prince Victor Bakare, who had returned home for the New Yam Festival, was allegedly beaten by youths, stripped of dignity, and drenched with filthy substances.
His mother, the Queen, was not spared—she was allegedly stripped half-naked, sparking outrage across the town.
In a desperate move, Oba Bakare stormed Ishara to rescue his son, but the monarch himself was mobbed, assaulted, and forcefully escorted back to his palace in a show of raw defiance against royal authority.
Community sources traced the unrest to a lingering feud between Oba Bakare and a prominent son of the quarters, Captain Falade, which had led to a court ruling in February barring both men from entering Ishara.
Residents claim the Oba’s presence violated the ruling, insisting “if Falade is barred, the monarch too must stay away.”
But Oba Bakare dismissed the allegations, insisting he had respected the court’s directive.
“I only went there to save my son and wife from being lynched,” he told reporters, accusing the Irekari LCDA Chairman, Mr. Dennis Adekunle, of leading the mob.
Adekunle fired back, describing the monarch’s claim as “false, malicious, and calculated blackmail,” insisting he was in Idoani at the time, handling another protest with Ose LG officials.
The police have since confirmed the unrest. Ondo PPRO, DSP Alayande Olusola, said officers and Amotekun operatives moved swiftly to douse the tension but revealed no arrest has been made yet.
The palace remains tense, with fears of reprisal and deeper crisis if authorities fail to step in.
