In a bold move to strengthen the education sector, the Chairman of Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State, Hon. Mohammad Olawale Mutiu, has distributed over 5,000 educational materials to students in secondary schools across the council.

At the distribution ceremony, Hon. Mutiu described education as the bedrock of development, stressing that investing in students was crucial to building a prosperous future for the community and the state.

Beneficiary schools included Agboriki Comprehensive High School, College Ikare Secondary School, AUD Secondary School, Osele Comprehensive High School, Comprehensive Secondary School Ikare, and Ise Akoko High School.

The intervention, carried out in partnership with Eduminds Africa, covered exercise books, textbooks, and other essential writing materials.

According to the council boss, more initiatives would follow, including the renovation of dilapidated classrooms and provision of modern facilities to create a more conducive learning environment.

Founder of Eduminds Africa, Miss Motunrayo Oyedele, said the gesture was aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents while also making education more attractive to students.

Teachers, parents, and students expressed gratitude for the support, describing the materials as timely amid the rising cost of school items.

Some parents noted that the effort would not only enhance teaching and learning but also rekindle students’ hope for a brighter future.

Hon. Mutiu, while urging students to take their studies seriously, called on parents to encourage reading culture and discipline among their wards.

He emphasized that education remains the most powerful tool to fight poverty and insecurity, urging all stakeholders to support government’s drive in the sector.

Community leaders at the event hailed the initiative, describing it as a worthy investment in the youth, which they said would yield long-term benefits for society.
