The Rural Women Energy Security (RUWES) Initiative has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ZLGA Waterways Limited to drive the Climate Smart Agronomy Programme across Nigeria.
With over two million registered members, RUWES will leverage the partnership to transform rural farming, boost food security, and strengthen Nigeria’s climate resilience through clean energy and sustainable agriculture.
According to Mrs. Jumaima Ella, Head of Secretariat, RUWES, the programme is designed to empower women farmers by introducing modern, eco-friendly farming practices and clean energy solutions.
The initiative is expected to deliver several benefits including:
Women Empowerment: Training and equipping rural women with advanced climate-smart farming techniques and energy solutions.

Improved Food Security: Promoting higher crop yields, reduced post-harvest losses, and better nutrition.
Climate Resilience: Adoption of drought-resistant crops, efficient irrigation, and soil conservation practices.
Environmental Protection: Curbing deforestation and reducing carbon emissions through clean energy integration.
Economic Growth: Generating new income opportunities, job creation, and better access to markets for women.
Technology & Energy Access: Expanding solar irrigation, biogas, and clean cookstove use in rural communities.
Capacity Building: Ongoing training, extension services, and cooperative support to sustain the impact.
Mrs. Ella noted that the MoU underscores RUWES’ mandate to empower rural women while supporting Nigeria’s broader climate action and renewable energy goals.
