Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has commended student leaders across tertiary institutions in the state for sustaining peace and stability on campuses since his assumption of office.

Speaking during a meeting with representatives of student unions at the Governor’s Office, Akure, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the Governor said the absence of protests or violent agitation in the state’s education sector was a testament to the maturity and responsible conduct of student leaders.

“I want to commend all of you for the way and manner you have been conducting yourselves. Since I became governor, there has been no student unrest. You have engaged clearly without any form of violent agitation,” Aiyedatiwa stated.

The Governor, while acknowledging the prevailing economic hardship caused by national reforms, urged students to remain patient, assuring them that the situation was temporary and already yielding positive results.

He further highlighted ongoing government efforts in road reconstruction, technical education, and electricity supply improvements, stressing that his administration remained committed to students’ welfare.

Aiyedatiwa announced the approval of five new buses for student bodies and called on private investors to partner with government in providing hostels to ease accommodation and security challenges on campuses.

In their remarks, student leaders expressed appreciation for the Governor’s support while also calling for more interventions in transportation, security, bursaries, and female student welfare.

Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Segun Omoyofunmi, and the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Students’ Affairs, Comrade Kelvin Solomon Olaolu, praised the administration’s open-door policy and support for youths.

With leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), Niger Delta Students’ Union and other unions in attendance, the meeting ended with a renewed pledge of cooperation between students and government to sustain peace and development in the state’s education sector.
