••• I Never Knew He Had a Wife — Lover Breaks Silence
••• Coroner announces arrival of Autopsy Report
The Coroner’s Inquest probing the mysterious death of the late Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Mr. Imoleayo Adeniran, took a dramatic turn on Friday as his longtime partner, Mrs. Ademiwole Morolayo kikelomo, revealed intimate details about his health struggles, secretive lifestyle, and emotional distress in the months leading to his death.
Testifying before the court, Morolayo disclosed that she had known the late registrar for over ten years and that their relationship produced a son in May 2022, now three years old.
She said Adeniran never introduced her to his family but introduced her to his close friends, promising that “when the time comes,” he would formally present her to his relatives.
The witness said she noticed in April 2022 that Adeniran had been undergoing dialysis, and later underwent a kidney transplant abroad before returning to Nigeria around November 2022.
“After the transplant, he couldn’t drive long distances. He showed me a mark on his left leg where they collected flesh for the surgery. Every three months, he went for check-ups at UCH, Ibadan, and usually spent about ₦300,000 on drugs,” she testified.
She added that Adeniran had been battling kidney issues since 2021, spending as much as ₦450,000 every three months on treatment before the transplant.
According to her, their last WhatsApp conversation took place on July 13, 2025, when the deceased told her his health had gone “from bad to worse” and that “things were not going as planned.”
“He was secretive, but I know he couldn’t take his own life,” she said. “He never discussed suicide. He only talked about how stressful work had become.”
Morolayo also told the court that she had always visited him at his GRA residence in Ondo but was unaware he had another house in Akure — or that he was legally married.
“I only discovered he had a wife when I saw her congratulating him on Facebook. When I confronted him, he said I should give him time,” she said.
She further revealed that Adeniran had sold his house in Akungba and one of his vehicles to raise funds for medical expenses.
“He told me he had a land along Ondo Road. We laid the foundation together, but later he said he sold that property too. I was shocked that he was buried in the same Akure house he told me he had sold,” she added.
⚖️ Coroner’s Position
Presiding over the hearing, the Coroner, Magistrate Dr Dickson Ogunfuyi, confirmed that a preliminary autopsy report had been received, though its content would not be made public until the comprehensive report is concluded.
“The preliminary report is out, but the full report will be made open once completed,” the Coroner said. “We will not rush this inquest. All facts must be properly established.”
The Coroner further directed that the driver of the deceased must continue to appear before the court until the full autopsy findings are released.
He also announced that the Chairman of the Visitation Panel set up by UNIMED to investigate the controversy surrounding Adeniran’s appointment and suspension would be summoned to testify at the next adjourned sitting.
The inquest was adjourned to Friday, October 24, 2025, for continuation of hearing.
