Popular Broadcaster, Mr. Gbeborun is Dead

The Nigerian media industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran broadcaster Johnson Olajide Ibikunle, popularly known as Mr. Gbeborun.

The ace broadcaster, celebrated for his captivating voice, humour, and engaging presentation style, reportedly passed away on Monday night, after decades of outstanding contribution to the growth of radio broadcasting in Nigeria.

Until his demise, Mr. Gbeborun had anchored several popular programmes on Radio Nigeria Positive FM, Akure, and Adaba FM, among others — where his witty delivery, humour, and storytelling flair earned him a loyal fan base.

Though details surrounding his death were still sketchy as of press time, one Emiloju Smart announced the sad news in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Another source also confirmed that the broadcaster died on Monday night, though no official statement has yet been released.

Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues and fans who described Mr. Gbeborun as a consummate professional, a mentor to many, and one of the golden voices that defined radio broadcasting in Ondo State and beyond.
