The Ondo State Government has urged residents to remain calm following the circulation of a leaked security memo indicating a possible terrorist attack in parts of the state.
The memo, originally issued by the State Security Service (SSS) to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure, warned of a possible plot by Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists to strike some communities in Akoko and Owo areas of the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, said the leaked document was part of routine intelligence sharing between security agencies and the government.
“Such reports are normal in security operations and are aimed at identifying and preventing potential threats,” Ajanaku said, stressing that the government and security agencies are already acting on the intelligence.
He assured that all necessary precautions have been taken to safeguard lives and property, adding that the Aiyedatiwa administration remains in close contact with all security formations in the state to maintain peace and stability.
“We urge residents to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and report any suspicious movement to the nearest security agency. Every measure is being taken to prevent any attack in Ondo State,” he said.
Ajanaku also emphasized that Ondo remains one of the safest states in Nigeria, while special attention is being given to border communities as part of ongoing security reinforcement.
The statement comes barely 24 hours after media reports cited an SSS memo warning of possible coordinated terrorist attacks in Ondo and Kogi States, with Eriti Akoko, Oyin Akoko, and Owo town identified as potential targets.
