The Vice President (South West) of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Bright Eniafe, has cautioned United States President Donald Trump over his alleged threat to launch military operations in Nigeria, describing it as “a reckless and unacceptable attempt to undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty.”
In a strongly worded statement titled “Separating Facts from Fiction: Donald Trump Coup on Nigeria – The Old CIA Tactics,” Eniafe said the remarks attributed to the 45th and 47th U.S. President reflect “the same old tactics” used by America to destabilize nations that refuse to serve its interests.
«“Nigeria is a sovereign nation. Any attempt to militarily threaten or interfere in our affairs is an abomination,” Eniafe declared. “It’s the same outdated playbook where the U.S. fails to install a puppet regime and then resorts to covert or overt aggression.”»
The youth leader accused the United States of double standards, arguing that Washington has lost moral credibility due to its internal crises, including rising gun violence, drug abuse, antisemitism, and political instability.
«“Before calling Nigeria out, America should fix its own internal decay — from government shutdowns to school shootings,” he stated. “No country with such systemic chaos should claim global moral leadership.”»
Eniafe also dismissed allegations of a Christian genocide in Nigeria, describing them as exaggerated and misleading. Drawing from his personal background, he said, “I come from a family of both Muslims and Christians. I’m a Christian with Muslim siblings, and I face no existential threat. The narrative of religious war in Nigeria is false and dangerous.”
The NYCN Vice President further linked recent developments — including an alleged failed coup and the reported revocation of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka’s visa — to what he described as “the same old CIA tactics” of applying pressure and funding destabilization through covert means.
He criticized U.S. interventions in other countries such as Iraq, Libya, and Afghanistan, noting that none of them have resulted in peace or progress.
«“The world was safer when Muammar Gaddafi was alive,” Eniafe added. “Libya is now a cautionary tale of what happens when U.S. bombs replace diplomacy.”»
Eniafe urged the Federal Government to summon the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard M. Mills Jr., for clarification and to take firm diplomatic action.
«“Nigeria’s alignment with BRICS and its pursuit of independent development must not be seen as a threat,” he said. “We stand united as Nigerians — our sovereignty is not for negotiation.”»
