The Second Edition of the Ondo Digital Media Summit has ended on a high note in Akure, with hundreds of young tech enthusiasts, media practitioners, and digital innovators converging to chart a path toward a tech-driven future for Ondo State.
The two-day event, held at the International Event and Cultural Centre (The Dome), was hosted by Mr. Olubunmi Ololajulo, Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and themed “Digital Media and Tech Trends: Harnessing Opportunities, Addressing Challenges and Finding Solutions.”
In his keynote address, Ondo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Adekola Falohun, described the initiative as “a bold step toward preparing Ondo youths for a digital future.”
He reaffirmed the Aiyedatiwa-led administration’s commitment to supporting technology-driven programs that equip young people with the tools and skills needed to compete globally.
Host and convener, Mr. Ololajulo, said the summit’s goal was to bridge the gap between governance and the digital ecosystem.
“This year’s edition has once again proven that Ondo State is not just keeping pace with digital transformation — we are setting the pace,” he said.
The summit featured a keynote lecture by Mr. Bayo Rojugbokan, Chairman of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), who emphasized the need for innovation-driven policies to promote digital inclusion, youth participation, and responsible use of new media.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, praised the summit for advancing professionalism in the media industry, urging journalists and content creators to promote credible and ethical online engagement.
Panel sessions featured notable discussants including Mr. Johnpaul Akinduro (Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor), Mr. Blessing Oripenaye (Media Professional), Mr. Daniel Dabo (Coordinator, OSYN), and Prince Leke Adegbite. Discussions centered on topics such as digital ethics, AI disruption, and content monetization.
A major highlight of the event was the empowerment of selected tech enthusiasts from the 18 Local Government Areas of the state with laptops and other digital devices, presented on behalf of the Deputy Governor.
Participants also benefitted from digital marketing workshops, AI training sessions, and financial technology lectures focused on promoting digital entrepreneurship and financial inclusion.
At the end of the summit, participants resolved to strengthen collaboration between government and digital media professionals to combat misinformation, enhance digital literacy, and promote Ondo State’s development milestones through responsible online communication.
With its growing influence, the Ondo Digital Media Summit has become a hub for innovation, mentorship, and policy dialogue—positioning Ondo State as a leading force in Nigeria’s digital evolution.
