Ondo State Government has begun the removal and relocation process of billboard frames obstructing the ongoing urbanisation and road upgrade projects in parts of Akure, the state capital.

The operation, carried out on Saturday, was supervised by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Signage and Advertisement, Mr. Yòmí Light Oyékàn, in line with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s urbanisation initiative.

The enforcement took place around the NEPA axis and High Court Road following an urgent advisory from the Ministry of Infrastructure to clear the corridor for the installation of new traffic lights and the rehabilitation of the NEPA Roundabout.

In a statement issued in Akure, Oyékàn explained that the intervention was necessary to ensure unhindered progress on the project.

He added that several illegal billboard structures were also identified and removed in accordance with the mandate of the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OSSAA) to sanitise the signage environment.

He urged owners of affected but authorised structures to visit OSSAA for discussions on the reallocation of their billboard frames.

Oyékàn apologised for any inconvenience caused by the exercise and assured stakeholders that they would receive proper guidance on the next steps.
