AKURE— Residents of Oke Aro, in Akure, Ondo State, were thrown into panic on Thursday morning following a daring armed robbery.
Eyewitnesses say gunmen, reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles, targeted a POS operator and made off with a huge sum of money.
The victim, a resident of Idanre, was reportedly heading home when the assailants trailed him to Oke Aro before striking.
The robbers forcibly collected ₦5 million from the POS operator. In a bid to prevent him from raising an alarm, they also locked his motorcycle and took away the keys, leaving him stranded.
The brazen attack has sparked fears among residents, who are now calling for increased security patrols along Oke Aro Road and surrounding areas.
Speaking to Roving Reporters, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Olushola Ayanlade, said no official report had yet been made to any nearby police station regarding the robbery.
The incident highlights growing concerns over security in the area, with locals urging law enforcement to act swiftly to prevent further attacks.
