A new political mobilisation platform, the Sunshine Grassroots Network (SGN), has been launched in Ondo State to strengthen the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, bankrolled and facilitated by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, was formally presented to the media on Wednesday at its Akure, state capital secretariat.
Director General of the SGN and former Deputy Governorship Candidate of Labour Party in the state, Hon. Dayo Awude, said the network is made up of APC members and new political entrants committed to expanding the party’s reach across Ondo State and beyond.
Awude explained that the SGN was established to deepen political education, attract new supporters, and project the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to the grassroots.
He noted that the group’s objective includes mobilising citizens to ensure the President secures a second term in office, adding that the APC must consolidate on what he described as “hard but necessary reforms” taken to stabilise the country.
Economic Reforms and National Progress
Awude said Nigeria was heading toward economic collapse before Tinubu assumed office, citing corruption around fuel subsidy, mounting debt servicing, and decaying infrastructure.
He praised the removal of fuel subsidy as a “courageous and life-saving step,” saying it has freed revenue for development and ended what he called “a cesspool of corruption.”
According to him, Nigeria’s rising external reserves—reported at $43.197 billion as of October 31, 2025—show that the economy is regaining stability.
He added that respected economic voices such as WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and former CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi have confirmed that the economy is now on a path of recovery and growth.
Ondo’s Rising Influence
Awude described Ondo’s current representation in the federal cabinet as historic, noting that the state has two serving ministers, including Tunji-Ojo, whom he praised for delivering impactful reforms in the Ministry of Interior.
These include improved passport processing, the introduction of e-gates at airports, enhanced border surveillance, and ongoing upgrades at major airports.
Road Projects and Infrastructure
He listed several federal projects ongoing in Ondo State, such as the dualisation of the Akure–Ondo–Ore road, the Akure–Ado Ekiti road, and the Ilesha–Akure–Benin road. He also highlighted the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, which will pass through Ondo State.
Awude urged citizens to support the APC-led federal government to ensure continuity and prevent abandoned projects.
Security Moves
On rising insecurity, the SGN DG commended President Tinubu for declaring a state of emergency on terror and pushing for amendments that will allow the creation of state police. He also called for speedy recruitment into the military and police.
A Grassroots Machine for 2027
Awude said the SGN is committed to driving political mobilisation, strengthening unity within the party, and ensuring broad-based support for the Renewed Hope agenda.
“The SGN remains dedicated to the progress and prosperity of Nigeria,” he said, thanking the media for their role in public enlightenment.
