•••As Hospital Sets Up Panel of Enquiry

A major controversy has erupted in Ekiti State following a viral video in which a patient, Mr. Joshua Afolayan, alleged that his kidney was removed at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, without his consent.

A visibly distressed Afolayan, who identified himself as a teacher, claimed he had lived without a functioning kidney for two months after undergoing surgery at the hospital in October.
In the video, he said:

“I don’t want to die like this. I have a two-year-old child. I had one faulty kidney and one working kidney, but after the surgery I discovered I could no longer urinate. They kept telling me the kidney would ‘wake up’. After 16 sessions of dialysis, I did another scan and they told me there was no kidney at all in my body.”

Accusing the hospital of deceit, he added:

“They have removed my kidney. I don’t know whether it was for money, ritual or whatever. I am calling on Governor Oyebanji and all Nigerians to help me.”

The disturbing allegations sparked outrage across social media, prompting immediate reaction from the hospital’s management.

In a swift response, the Chairman, Board of Management of EKSUTH, Dr. Adedamola Dada, announced the constitution of a seven-man independent panel to investigate the claims.
According to the statement:

“No stone will be left unturned to determine the facts of this matter. The members of the panel are independent, reputable and responsible members of the community.”

The panel is chaired by Prof. Francis Faduyile, a renowned anatomic pathologist from Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

Other members include academics, a cleric, a community leader, a media professional, and a legal adviser.

The hospital urged the public and all parties involved to remain calm and cooperate with the enquiry, which has 10 days to submit its report.
Dada reassured:

“Fairness and justice will guide the investigation. The hospital will not cover up wrongdoing if established.”

Meanwhile, public outrage continues to grow as Nigerians demand transparency, accountability, and justice for the alleged victim.
