…Says kinsmen never appreciate their own
Ondo North Senator, Pastor Jide Ipinsagba, has accused some residents of his hometown, Ikare-Akoko, of being behind the fiercest criticisms against his political career.
In a video posted on Wednesday by a blogger Seun Aruwajoye, the senator lamented that despite being “a golden opportunity God gave Ikare Akoko,” many of his own people allegedly refuse to support him.
According to him, “The greatest heat that I have today politically as a senator is from Ikare Akoko. Because Ikare Akoko people would never see anything good in their products. Therefore, we need to change that narrative.”
Ipinsagba, who hails from Ikare-Akoko in Akoko North-East Local Government Area, said he had observed persistent online attacks from people of the community.
“If anyone accused me of wrongdoing, the first person that would attack me is from Ikare. They must talk. All negative comments from Ikare Akoko against me,” he said, arguing that other towns support their leaders regardless of performance.
“Oke Agbe people would not do such against their leaders whether he performed or not… same as Owo town.”
The senator also referenced past political dynamics, noting that some individuals had insisted during the 2023 campaign season that they would support former Ondo North lawmaker, Senator Robert Ajayi Boroffice, if he had shown interest in returning to the Senate.
“Had it been Boroffice came to contest in Ondo North Senatorial District, they would still support him whether he performed or didn’t perform as expected. It is not their business,” he said.
Although Aruwajoye published the footage, he did not disclose the venue or date of the event where the senator made the remarks. The post, however, has attracted reactions across Facebook and other social media platforms.
Ipinsagba stated he remains undeterred:
“As far as I’m concerned, I remain focused.”
