The Ondo State Government has denied claims that the convoy of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was responsible for the death of a young boy, Master Goodness Olawumi Emiju, in Oka Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, described as false and misleading a press statement credited to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, which alleged that the governor’s convoy knocked down the deceased while returning from a Thank-You Tour on Monday, December 15, 2025.
According to the statement, the Ondo State Government expressed deep sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, particularly his parents, Mr. Emiju Samson Abiodun and Mrs. Emiju Christianah Omotayo, as well as the people of Oka Akoko, over what it described as a tragic and painful loss.
However, the government categorically stated that neither the governor’s convoy nor any vehicle attached to it was involved in any accident on the said date or at any time during the ongoing Thank-You Tour across the 18 local government areas of the state.
The government clarified that the fatal incident was caused by a police operational vehicle attached to the Officer-in-Charge (O.C.) Scorpion, which was on a separate assignment at the time of the accident.
It added that the police officers involved immediately rushed the victim to the General Hospital in Oka Akoko and later to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he eventually died. The Nigeria Police Force, the statement noted, is currently engaging with the family of the deceased.
The Ondo State Government cautioned the PDP against what it described as the spread of unverified, sensational, and misleading information capable of creating unnecessary tension and public apprehension.
It urged opposition parties to embrace responsible democratic engagement by verifying facts before making public statements, stressing that the circulation of falsehoods under the guise of opposition politics undermines good governance and public trust.
