Commercial motorcycle operators and traders at Odo-Ikoyi Market in Akure, the Ondo State capital, have called on the Ondo State Government to urgently rehabilitate the dilapidated road linking the market to Odo-Ikoyi Street.
Speaking with Roving Reporters on behalf of okada riders operating in the area, Mr. Ilesanmi Oyesanmi lamented the poor condition of the road, describing it as a major threat to safety and livelihood.
“The road linking the market to Odo-Ikoyi is very bad and dangerous for both riders and passengers. It affects our daily income and exposes us to frequent accidents,” Oyesanmi said.
He also accused some traders of worsening the situation by barricading parts of the road with their goods.
“Some traders have blocked sections of the road with their wares, and all efforts to stop them have so far proved abortive,” he added.
Also speaking, a trader at the Odo-Ikoyi Market, Mrs. Esther Jegede, appealed to the Ondo State Government to intervene by rehabilitating the road to improve commercial activities in the area.
“The bad road has seriously affected our sales. Customers who used to come with vehicles have stopped coming because they complain about the condition of the road,” she said.
Mrs. Jegede stressed that fixing the road would boost business and ease movement.
“We are calling on the Ondo State Government to rehabilitate the road from Odo-Ikoyi Market up to the back of the Central Mosque. This will help traders and attract customers back to the market,” she added.
The traders and okada riders expressed hope that prompt government intervention would restore accessibility and revive economic activities in the market.
