Akure – After months of public concern over the lack of preparations for Ondo State’s Golden Jubilee, the government of Lucky Aiyedatiwa has finally inaugurated a 16-member committee to oversee the state’s 50th anniversary celebrations and the first anniversary of his administration, both scheduled for February 2026.
The committee will be chaired by Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, with Pastor Adeyemi Adeyemo, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Matters, serving as Secretary.
Other notable members include Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN, OON, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Hon. Omowunmi Isaac, and Chief Gbenga Atiba among others.
The committee is expected to establish sub-committees to handle all aspects of the celebrations, from public events and cultural displays to legacy projects.
The move comes after Roving Reporters highlighted in late 2025 that no visible steps had been taken to organize the Golden Jubilee.
At that time, there were no announcements on the committee members, no detailed plan, and no clear direction from the state government, raising concerns about whether the milestone would be properly commemorated.
“Nothing had been done. There was no committee, no plan, nothing at all,” a source within the government had told Roving Reporters, expressing worry that the celebration could pass unnoticed.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has now urged the committee members to dedicate their best efforts to ensure a befitting celebration for the people of Ondo State.
Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, confirmed the announcement in a statement dated December 31, 2025.
