Ondo CP Raises Alarm Over Police Losses at Roadblocks

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, has expressed serious concern over the growing number of police personnel losing their lives while manning roadblocks across the state.

CP Lawal spoke during the formal opening of a four-day training programme on Roadblock Operations and Safety Measures, which commenced on Tuesday in akure.

The programme brought together officers from the Safer Highway Patrol, Highway Patrol Unit, Department of Operations, and Tactical Units.

Addressing the participants, the CP stressed the importance of safeguarding lives while performing operational duties.

“The safety of our operatives remains paramount,” he said. “We are losing personnel at an alarming rate, and only living officers can effectively protect lives and property. Every officer has family and loved ones who depend on them.”

He further urged officers to strictly observe Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and to embrace technology in their daily duties.

“Remain alert and conscious of your environment while on duty. Ensure the free flow of traffic, remove all impediments, and conduct stop-and-search operations professionally. Respond promptly to accident and emergency situations,” he advised.

CP Lawal also warned against actions that could tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force, such as checking phones during duty or engaging in corrupt practices.

The training is part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to build a highly professional police force capable of delivering quality service in line with global best practices.

CP Lawal reassured that continuous training and retraining would remain a priority to improve operational efficiency and ensure the safety of all personnel.
