Popular Nigerian gospel artiste Bunmi Akinnanu, fondly known as “Omije Ojumi,” has passed away.
Her death was confirmed on Tuesday evening by a close associate, although the family is yet to release an official statement. Additional details are expected in the coming days.
Akinnanu’s passing comes months after she publicly sought prayers and divine intervention while battling a severe leg condition.
In late 2025, a video from G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan surfaced online, showing the singer seated with her leg stretched out as the congregation prayed for her recovery.
The clip, which went viral, sparked widespread concern after the officiating cleric revealed that the artiste had been experiencing persistent bleeding in her leg.
Fans across Nigeria immediately mobilised prayer chains and flooded social media with messages of support.
Despite the intense public interest, the exact medical nature of her ailment was never officially disclosed.
Bunmi Akinnanu began singing at the age of 10 before leaving a banking career to pursue her passion for gospel music.
She gained national recognition with her hit track “Omije Ojumi,” a song that emotionally connected with listeners and cemented her place as a respected voice in the industry.
She went on to release several other songs that strengthened her influence in gospel music circles.
Tributes from fans and colleagues have already begun to pour in as the gospel community mourns her loss.
