As part of activities marking the 73rd Founders’ Day anniversary of Oyemekun Grammar School (OGS), Akure, and the leadership transition at the Global Executive Council of the Oyemekun Grammar School Old Students’ Association (OGSA), the outgoing Global President, Dr Niyi Ijogun, has led members of the association on courtesy and thank-you visits to key stakeholders.

The delegation visited the Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr Aladetoyinbo Ogulade Aladelusi, CFR, and the Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, to appreciate their support and goodwill to the association and the school during Dr Ijogun’s tenure.

The visits, according to the association, were aimed at strengthening institutional relationships and acknowledging stakeholders who have consistently supported OGSA and Oyemekun Grammar School.

Speaking at the Deji’s Palace, Dr Ijogun expressed profound gratitude to the monarch, himself an alumnus of the school, for his fatherly guidance, prayers and sustained interest in education and alumni development in Akure Kingdom.

“Your Imperial Majesty has remained a pillar of support to our alma mater and its old students. We are here to thank you for your encouragement, wisdom and belief in education as a vital tool for societal development,” he said.

In his response, Oba Aladelusi commended OGSA for its unity, sense of responsibility and commitment to giving back to the school and society.

He applauded the infrastructural projects executed by the outgoing Global Executive Council, noting that they have improved the school’s outlook and visibility.

The monarch congratulated Dr Ijogun on a successful tenure and urged members of the association to remain worthy ambassadors of Oyemekun Grammar School, while sustaining efforts in mentoring younger generations.

The OGSA delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, where they were received by Prof Ajibefun. Dr Ijogun thanked the commissioner and the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for their support for education and for creating an enabling environment for alumni organisations to contribute meaningfully to educational development.

He described the ministry as a “partner in progress” in the association’s efforts at promoting academic excellence, discipline and quality education, adding that OGSA remains committed to supporting policies and initiatives that uplift schools and youth development in the state.

Dr Ijogun also congratulated Governor Aiyedatiwa on the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ondo State, praying for continued peace, prosperity and sustainable growth.

In his remarks, Prof Ajibefun lauded OGSA for its organised structure and developmental initiatives, describing alumni associations as critical stakeholders in education, given government’s limited resources.

He noted that OGSA’s contributions to infrastructure had positively impacted teaching, learning, academics, sports and extracurricular activities at the school.

The commissioner congratulated the association on its recognition as the Outstanding Alumni Association in Africa by the African Conference of Principals Initiatives, as well as the achievements recorded by the outgoing Global Executive Council.

He assured OGSA of the ministry’s continued partnership in promoting discipline, infrastructure development and quality education, while encouraging members to continue mobilising their expertise and resources for the benefit of schools and communities.
