The Management of FUTA Teaching Hospital, Akure, has dismissed reports questioning the existence and operations of the hospital, describing such claims as misinformation and misleading.
The statement was signed on Wednesday by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abraham Temitope.
This clarification follows a recent public notice by the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), announcing the suspension of admissions into its MBBS programme, including Direct Entry, for the 2026/2027 academic session.
According to the hospital’s management, the FUTA announcement relates strictly to the university’s internal admissions processes and has no bearing whatsoever on the establishment, status, or operations of FUTA Teaching Hospital.
The hospital noted that its healthcare services, residency programmes, and professional training activities remain fully operational.
The management recalled that on October 23, 2025, the Federal Government, through the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ondo State Government for the transfer and handover of the former UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Akure, to the Federal Government.
At the event, Professor Pate disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed the establishment of a Federal Teaching Hospital in Akure, the Ondo State capital, a directive which led directly to the creation of FUTA Teaching Hospital.
Quoting the Minister, the statement read: “The President gave instructions months ago that the Ministry should collaborate with all stakeholders, including the Ondo State Government, to ensure this feat is achieved. We quickly set the machinery in motion.”
The management stressed that the establishment of FUTA Teaching Hospital is a direct outcome of this presidential directive and is completely independent of FUTA’s MBBS admissions decisions.
Residents of Ondo State and the general public were therefore urged to disregard any contrary information, as the hospital continues to function fully, providing quality healthcare services and professional medical training.
The statement further advised members of the public to rely only on the hospital’s verified channels for accurate information regarding its activities, programmes, and opportunities.
