CCB Grills Ondo Commissioner Over Alleged Double Salary Scandal

by Roving

The Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, on Wednesday appeared before the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in Akure over allegations that he has been receiving salaries from multiple government establishments in violation of constitutional provisions.

Ajibefun was summoned following a petition titled “Receiving Salary/Allowances in More Than One Government Establishment at the Same Time,” which alleged that he breached the Code of Conduct for Public Officers as contained in the Fifth Schedule, Part I, Paragraphs 1 and 11 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The provisions prohibit public officers from working and drawing emoluments from more than one government establishment simultaneously.

The Bureau’s summons, signed by Mrs. Akingbemila R.O., stated that it was observed that Ajibefun, while serving as Commissioner for Education in Ondo State, was also a member of the Governing Council of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.

The letter directed him to appear before the Panel of Enquiry constituted by the Ondo State Office of the CCB at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, to clear himself of the allegations.

He was also instructed to present a letter of leave of absence duly accepted by his previous employer.

The Bureau warned that failure to comply with the directive would leave it with no option but to forward the case to the Code of Conduct Tribunal for appropriate sanctions.

Ajibefun honoured the invitation and was quizzed by the panel.

Speaking with reporters after his appearance, the Commissioner denied receiving multiple salaries from government agencies, insisting that the allegations were false.

He clarified that he does not earn salaries from any of the state-owned tertiary institutions but only receives sitting allowances in his capacity as a statutory member of their Governing Councils.

According to him, the payments are lawful and statutory.

The state-owned institutions where he serves on governing councils include Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA); University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo; Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo; and Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OUASTECH), Okitipupa.

However, Ajibefun declined to disclose the amount he receives as sitting allowances.

The development has stirred debate over the interpretation of constitutional provisions regarding public office holders and multiple remunerations.
