The lawmaker representing Ileoluji/Okeigbo and Odigbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Festus Adefiranye, has distributed financial grants to 1,000 youths, artisans and elderly residents to boost their economic status and improve livelihoods across the constituency.
Speaking at the event held on Monday in Okeigbo, Adefiranye, who was represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Engr. Funminiyi Adesoji, said the initiative was designed to provide business support and financial relief to enable beneficiaries invest in their trades and earn sustainable incomes to meet their basic needs.
He described economic empowerment as a critical tool for tackling unemployment and promoting sustainable grassroots development.
The lawmaker urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds to expand their businesses, create employment opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the local economy.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Zonal Chairman in Okeigbo, Hon. Samson Ojetayo, expressed appreciation to the lawmaker, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.
He assured that recipients would make prudent and effective use of the grants to improve their businesses.
Addressing constituents, Adefiranye highlighted his achievements over the past two years in office.
He said he facilitated the construction of four kilometres of new roads in strategic areas of the constituency and implemented empowerment programmes that saw the distribution of vocational tools, including sewing machines, motorcycles, generators and deep freezers, to more than 200 beneficiaries across all wards.
He also facilitated fertiliser distribution to farmers, supported youth employment into federal agencies, and organised training initiatives for traditional leaders, all aimed at broad-based development.
In the area of infrastructure, the lawmaker facilitated the installation of a 500 KVA transformer in Ore and solar-powered boreholes in several communities to improve electricity supply and access to clean water.
He also facilitated the sponsorship of 100 Christian faithful to Jerusalem for holy pilgrimage and carried out massive grading of rural roads across the two local government areas.
At the legislative level, Adefiranye said he championed motions for the rehabilitation and dualisation of the Ore-Ondo-Akure federal road, as well as for the completion of the long-abandoned Okeigbo power project—both described as key drivers of economic activity and improved quality of life.
He further disclosed that he sponsored and moved several bills and motions, including a bill seeking the establishment of a Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery in Oke-Igbo to enhance healthcare training and services in the constituency.
As part of his scorecard, the lawmaker also listed school infrastructure projects, including the construction of classroom blocks in Kajola and Bolorunduro to expand educational capacity, as well as overseas opportunities facilitated for youths across the constituency.
He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining development initiatives and delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of Ileoluji/Okeigbo and Odigbo Federal Constituency.
